Definition

Lipoprotein lipase is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in breaking down triglycerides in lipoproteins into free fatty acids and glycerol, which can then be used by cells for energy or stored as fat. It is found on the surface of endothelial cells lining the blood vessels, primarily in the heart, muscle tissue, and adipose tissue.
