Buddhism: A religion based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), which is widely practiced in Sri Lanka.
Colonialism: The practice or policy of control by one people or power over other people or areas, often by establishing colonies and generally with the aim of economic dominance. In the modern period, colonialism was practiced by European powers over much parts including Sri Lanka.
Independence movements: These are movements that aim to create a new sovereign state separate from their colonial rulers. Sri Lanka had its own independence movement against British rule.
