Tubuloglomerular feedback

from class:

Anatomy and Physiology I

Definition

Tubuloglomerular feedback is a regulatory mechanism in the kidneys that adjusts the rate of glomerular filtration in response to the sodium chloride (NaCl) concentration in the fluid flowing through the distal convoluted tubule. It balances fluid and electrolyte levels by altering arteriole diameter and therefore renal blood flow.
