Temporal bone

Definition

The temporal bone is a bilateral (occurring on both sides) structure in the human skull that contributes to the sides and base of the skull and houses the structures of the ear. It plays a critical role in hearing and balance, as well as providing attachment points for muscles involved in mastication (chewing).
