Gastrocnemius

Definition

The gastrocnemius is a large, two-headed muscle located at the back part of the lower leg, primarily responsible for plantar flexing the foot at the ankle joint and flexing the leg at the knee joint. It is one of the major muscles that contribute to the calf's shape and movement.
