Definition

An articular capsule is a fibrous envelope that encloses the synovial cavity of a synovial joint, providing both stability and flexibility. It consists of two layers: an outer fibrous layer that strengthens the joint, and an inner synovial membrane that secretes synovial fluid for lubrication.
