5 Must Know Facts For Your Next Test

  1. Episcleritis is typically idiopathic but can be associated with systemic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
  2. It usually does not affect vision and is self-limiting, often resolving without treatment.
  3. Common symptoms include redness in one or both eyes, mild discomfort, and watery eyes but no discharge.
  4. Topical corticosteroids or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are sometimes used to reduce inflammation and discomfort.
  5. Distinguishing episcleritis from scleritis is important; the latter is more severe and can result in vision loss.
