Definition

A vinyl group is an alkene with the formula CH₂=CH−, where two carbon atoms are double-bonded to each other, and one of these carbons is bonded to another group or element. It acts as a fundamental unit in organic chemistry for forming more complex molecules through reactions at its double bond.
