Anatomy and Physiology I

Definition

Podocytes are specialized cells in the kidneys that wrap around capillaries of the glomerulus, forming a crucial part of the filtration barrier that filters blood to form urine. They have foot-like extensions called foot processes or pedicels, which interlock with those of adjacent podocytes to prevent the passage of large molecules.
