Cervical vertebrae

Definition

The cervical vertebrae are the seven vertebrae located in the neck region of the vertebral column. They support the skull, enable a range of head movements, and protect the spinal cord that passes through them.

Axis (C2): The second cervical vertebra that forms a pivot upon which the atlas rotates, enabling side-to-side movement of the head.
