Definition

A failed state is a political entity that has disintegrated to a point where the government is no longer able to perform its basic functions such as maintaining order, upholding the rule of law, and providing public services. These states often suffer from widespread corruption, an inability to collect taxes, and a lack of effective judiciary or security forces.
