Central Powers: During World War I, Germany and Austria-Hungary were part of this military alliance known as the Central Powers. It also included the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) and eventually Bulgaria.
Dual Alliance: This term refers to an earlier alliance formed in 1879 between Germany and Austria-Hungary. It laid the foundation for the later Triple Alliance with Italy joining in 1882.
