Hutus and Tutsis: These are two main ethnic groups in Rwanda with long-standing tensions between them which culminated into genocide against Tutsis by Hutus in 1994.
United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR): This mission was deployed by UN during Rwandan genocide but failed to prevent or stop the genocide due to lack of resources and mandate.
International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR): This was a court established by United Nations to prosecute persons responsible for genocide and other serious violations of international humanitarian law in Rwanda.
