Peninsulares: These were people who were born in Spain but lived in Spanish America. They held the highest positions of power within the Casta system.
Criollos: Criollos were people of European descent who were born in Spanish America. They had lower status than Peninsulares but held higher positions than other racial groups.
Mestizos: Mestizos were individuals with mixed Indigenous and European ancestry. They occupied an intermediate position within the Casta system, below Peninsulares and Criollos.
