Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep

Definition

REM sleep is a stage of sleep characterized by rapid and random eye movements, increased brain activity, and vivid dreaming. It is also known as paradoxical sleep because the brain waves during this stage resemble wakefulness, while the muscles are relaxed and inactive.
