Definition

Shigella is a type of bacteria that causes an infectious disease called shigellosis. Shigellosis is characterized by severe diarrhea (often bloody), fever, stomach cramps, and sometimes vomiting. It spreads through fecal-oral transmission, usually due to poor hygiene or contaminated food/water.
